If you are getting married soon, you should totally make your confetti. Petal confetti is the way to go for your wedding as most venues don’t allow the paper version, most venues want you to use biodegradable confetti and natural petal confetti is of course biodegradable and is kind to the environment.
A fun and cost effective way of making your own confetti is to collect flowers from your own garden and this exactly what we did when making our own. If its not the right season for the flowers that you want or your chosen colour scheme, then you could go to your local supermarket or florist.
Picking Your flowers
1. Choose fresh flowers in full bloom and try to avoid petals that are turning brown on the edges as these become very brown on drying and wont look very pretty. Pick off the petals from your flowers – or if they are very small flowers like bluebells, they can be popped in whole.
Baking your petals
2. Use a microwave safe plate and place a piece of kitchen towel on top.
3. Place the petals onto the kitchen towel, making sure that they do not touch each other.
4 Place a piece of kitchen towel on top of the petals.
5. Put the plate into the microwave for 1 minute.
6. Take the plate out of the microwave and turn the petals over. Place them back into the mircowave for another minute. If they start to brown, take the petals out.
7. Take them out of the microwave and let them cool.
8. Repeat the process, depending on how many batches of confetti is needed for your wedding day.
Storing your confetti
9. Check your petals are all dry and store in a sealed container. Keep them in a dark cool place until your wedding day!
Making your own leaf confetti
Alternatively, you could choose to make your own leaf confetti.
1. Collect a range of leaves from your garden or whilst on a woodland walk.
2.There are a variety of hand punches available to cut out shapes for your confetti. In this instance I used a standard hole puncher, but you can find ones that will cut out stars, hearts…
